Today, I asked my mother if we could test me for OCD, since so many people have suggested to me that I might have it. She smiles at me and says, "No, honey, you're just really really weird." FML

I dunno, I don't think this really counts as an FYL or a YDI. It's just kinda like a.. I'm sorry? I mean, my mom calls me weird all the time. So what?

Uhh, my mom calls me weird too...? It's not really a bad thing. OP is too sensitive.

yes there is. OCD is caused by an imbalance of the neurotransmitter called serotonin. i hate when people try to belittle our condition.

embrace the fact that you're different. it's not a bad thing to be called weird. pretty much everyday i am called weird by someone. and it's kind of fun to be quirky. so your life is fine. :D

It might help to do a little research on clinical diagnosis and present what you find to your mom or your physician. That's what I did with ADD, and it helped me to get diagnosed and treated, since they're both "trendy" and "popular" disorders and not always taken as seriously. For everyone who's saying "everyone's got a little OCD" - well, most psychiatric disorders are only diagnosed on a sliding scale. Sometimes it's hard to tell who "is" and who "isn't." What it really comes down to is whether it's interfering with your everyday life and your ability to live.

As someone who has a SEVERE case of both ADD and OCD, I hear ya :/ Everyone going "OMG I'm so ADD I can't concentrate on my homework!" these days annoys the crap out of me. x(

what a motherly thing to say (not) ur mom is retarded

do u people kno what OCD is? I don't think u get the point #69

I just wanted to say having OCD is horrible and something you never get rid of. I was profectionally diagnosed 3 years ago and therapy has helped me so much. My mom did not want to believe me at first but i had a huge panic attack and she took me to the doctors. Just get help if you think you need it, regardless of what others think. Best of luck

I understand how this is an FML. Just because others are more accepting of their parents opinions, doesn't mean you have to be. But that's really not fair. ): I have terrible OCD. It's really hard for some people to understand. If you think you have it, go to your doctor and try to get it under control.

I don't think I'd believe you if you told me you had "terrible OCD" because you just look like an attention-starved emo kid to me whose "condition" makes her "special". blahblahblah, go ahead and chew me out.

AMEN. THANK YOU. Just like #75, stupid young teen girls who are attention ****** always claim to have OCD so they can get attention. Let me guess, do they also struggle with anorexia/bulimia and cutting? Awwww , i feel so bad. except, no i don't! EVERYONE HAS PROBLEMS. THAT'S LIFE. DEAL WIT IT DEAL WIT IT

Don't be a dick. Words and expressions like ADD, depression, and OCD are overused by teenagers who don't actually have the chemical imbalances in the brain that cause them (and it's really annoying), but you can't assume that everyone who claims they have one is another whiny emo bitch who doesn't have any actual issues. You're being just as ignorant and obnoxious as the kids who claim that there is something wrong with them. It's not only people like the lying kids who make these disorders into a farce; it's people like you, too. Douche. Oh, by the way? I have ADD, and I've got the meds to prove it. Don't act like anyone who claims they have a disorder is lying, because that's not true.

"Ohhh stop trying to get attention, everyone has problems, blahblahblah." I agree with number 138. I was diagnosed with SEVERE ADD in 1st grade. I've been taking medication for it since 3rd grade. I'm now seventeen, and that diagnosis was recently reinforced by one of the, if not THE, top learning disorder expert in the United States. I've been through hell and back trying to get modifications to level the playing field for myself in school. Try saying "there's no such thing as learning disorders" to my face. See what happens. I also have severe OCD. So few people really understand what that's like :(. I suggest everyone here reads "Kissing Doorknobs" by Terry Spencer Hesser...it'll help. It's just a really good, easy read that would give anyone a better understanding of what real OCD sufferers go through.
