Today, I asked my mother if we could test me for OCD, since so many people have suggested to me that I might have it. She smiles at me and says, "No, honey, you're just really really weird." FML

I dunno, I don't think this really counts as an FYL or a YDI. It's just kinda like a.. I'm sorry? I mean, my mom calls me weird all the time. So what?

Uhh, my mom calls me weird too...? It's not really a bad thing. OP is too sensitive.

I could go for an Orange Cold Drink right about now... My OId Creepy Dad was spying on me at the mall today. Olives Chopped Dry make for an interesting pizza topping. Thank you, and goodnight!

You should at least actually look up what OCD is rather than taking your friend's opinions. It's a serious condition - there is no such thing as having a "little bit of OCD" (or at least it's not a disorder). You only have it if it's seriously a burden to your life, i.e. it affects your performance at school or work and/or your social life. There are a few short documentaries on YouTube if you want to know what OCD is. It certainly doesn't mean being really neat, or being a "germophobe" unless you're doing something like washing your hands so much that you literally rub a layer of skin off of your hands until they are raw.

more than likely, your mom is actually afraid you'll be diagnosed with OCD. she'd rather think you're "just really really weird" than mentally ill. even now there is still a strong stigma against mental illness and a lot of people (my mother included) think it's something to be ashamed of. if your mom won't help you get tested, find some other way, because if you really do have OCD, it's only going to get worse without treatment.

I don't think it's the being called weird which is the alarming part of the OP's mother's reaction, it's the fact that she actively ignored her child reaching out for help. Speaking from personal experience, it's a horrible feeling instinctively knowing that you need outside help and going so far to ask for it just to be shot down. Still, if the OP only wants to be tested because other people have suggested that they may suffer from it, I would direct them to Google and ask to to search for more information about OCD and its symptoms before proceeding.

I think that the disorder should be called CDO because the letters must be in alphabetical order.

haha I've seen something like that xD "I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order, like they SHOULD BE."

go get diagnosed yourself. My best friend has it, and she is much happier now that she's on medication. Ignore your mother; she seems like she needs to be on something more than someone with OCD.

LMAO my mom said that to me. Except I'm a lot like her so she said, "No, we're just tweaky and neurotic."

Someone telling you that you're weird isn't necessarily a bad thing. If that's what you're upset about, then you need to get over it. Parents have said worse things to their children. However if you're upset because your mother ignored you trying to get help I would talk to your mom about it. This isn't an FML. One last thing, sometimes people mistake strange quirks for something more serious. Honestly, you probably do not have OCD because that type of disorder is usually easily identified by parents and doctors due to the anxiety issues that stem from it. If you are simply meticulous or somewhat of a perfectionist you probably have obsessive compulsive personality disorder. But if you're really serious about seeing if you have it, then look up the symptoms on the internet. Don't try and diagnose yourself or let your friends diagnose you because that could bring some unwanted attention.

If your mother would react that way to more legitimate concerns, FYL. But, honestly, you really don't have OCD to any significant degree if all you have to suggest it is "people sometimes tell me I'm being OCD," so your mother has little reason to spend time and/or money on getting you tested.

Haha. I get the whole "No, you're just really weird" comment a lot.
