Today, I bought a safe. I put all of my most prized possessions in it, including all of my jewelry, family heirlooms and important papers. Oh, and just before I locked it up, I put the key to the safe in there too. FML

Don't you need the key to lock it? If not, shouldn't you at least have a spare? At least now you can use it like those old fashioned piggy banks. Smash it! But in your case, you may need to use a diamond saw.

so uhh... cant even trust yourself? or is it an extra security measure for you stuff?

Op's a woman - I'm just putting that out there, not making any implications myself.

You didn't test it out first to see if works the way it's supposed to before cramming everything in there? How did the key get in the safe in the first place? Was it taped to the door or something?

Safe Keyping.....I know lame pun but I couldn't resist!

This is bullshit. All "safes" are intentionally designed to be locked FROM THE OUTSIDE.

If this is real, contact the company with all the information (serial number, make and model, proof it's yours, etc.) and get a new key. But the unlikelihood of it requiring a key makes me you can accidentally lock in there makes me think this if fake.

Hey. Look at the bright side... At least your safe...and everything in it... will be safe. :]

And for everyone out there... It is possible to lock the key in. I for one have done it... I was at a hotel. And I unlocked it and looked around. Put a note in there for my mom...and a note on the closet door telling her to look in the safe... Happens that I placed the key in there because there was no where else to put it. Locked it in, along with my note... I wonder if anyone has read it yet? XD It is just like locking your keys in the car.
