Today, I chaperoned a school dance. A song I knew came on, and, wanting to be the fun teacher, I danced around a little. The students then pointed and laughed. I graduated in '87 and high school still hurts. FML

It would have been more awkward if they just stared in silence...

Smile at them and ask if they'd prefer to be laughing in the office?

Sorry bro, but that's not what an honest teacher would do. She kinda put herself in this situation, no need to punish the pupils.

The Safety Dance lyrics come to mind.

Of course, kids today think that song is by the Glee cast :(

You know, that dance wasn't as safe as they said it was...

Kids can be cruel, especially in high school. Hopefully you acted like you meant to be funny, op.

I say bravo for dancing to music you love; kids these days simply don't understand your body is the greatest instrument you'll ever use.. Unless you're fat - in which case a gym membership and a balanced diet will help you obtain the greatest instrument you'll ever use! Keep dancing, G!

Yeah, I think you forgot the part where they were POINTING and laughing. Maybe I'm wrong, but that sounds like they're laughing AT him.

Should have peed in the punch like you were thinking of doing.

I wonder how you manage as a teacher if you care about your students' opinion that much. Let's face it: the majority of them will never think of us as fun or cool. Being yourself is the only way to go, bad dance moves included. I don't think them laughing and pointing is that bad anyway. Usually students find it hilarious to see their teachers dance and especially if you're really bad at it you can be sure some of the laughers and pointers will appreciate you apparently not giving a shit what others think.

High schoolers these days are jerks- I've heard several brag about having made their teachers cry, and talk about making their parents cry. I think it's time we brought back corporal punishment. A lot of teens these days need some sense and respect knocked into them.

I hate it when people "try to be cool". My ex-drama teacher told us not to wear our costumes out of lessons, and she told us if someone asks you about your costume, not to say "*stereotypical gangster voice* Yeah, I'm wearing this for my part, *super deep voice* bruv". We live in middle/upper class suburbia :P. She was 100% serious :L.

What does that have to do with anything?

High school still hurts? Isn't the OP a teacher of that same high school? '87? Should have shown them your break dance moves. Back spins, popping and the worm are still cool! Unless if Frankie says Relax, don't do it.
