Today, I confided to my dad that since the recent breakup with my boyfriend of 3 months, I feel down all the time and life doesn't feel worth living anymore. His loving advice was for me to "grow the fuck up and get your sentimental head out of la-la land." FML

Today, I went to my father for advice. I've been seeing a wonderful girl for the past month, and I feel terrible about it, because I already have a girlfriend. He said "Kill yourself" and that if I "can't even do that right" then to get out of his house, because he disowns me. FML

Today, I was sitting in my room when my dad walked in to talk. He said I'm not the son he'd hoped for, and that he'd been let down as a father. He said I should change the way I am so that he could love me more. It was the longest conversation I've had with my dad in years. FML

dad is right. dads are usually right. the older I get the more I understand this. 3 months is not that long. it's more likely your ex was an ass, but you were too blinded to see that. dad was not.

to be honest, as harsh as your dad sounded, as real as he was. No one's life becomes worthless just for breaking up with a guy... its a sad moment of the life, and you will move on. However, maybe your dad should've given you the same tips but with a gentler tone excluding the F word.
