Today, I decided to get in shape for swimsuit season, so I went to the gym. I tried to lift a barbell up and over my head, which was fine, until I dropped it. Exercise earned me a concussion and a neck brace. FML

Always always always have a spotter with you. That way you don't wind up like that. Just remember to invite a friend next time you work out op.

But did you get dat summer body? If you did you'll lose it while your head is partially disabled

Start a bit easier. I hope this incident doesn't stop you from wanting to work out in the future, after your recovery of course

If your trying to get get in shape do cardio rather than weights it burns fat faster

Guys have to get muscles to get in shape, not just become thin

Ironically it's the opposite. The after burn effect.

A combination of both would be better if you want to maximise your weight loss. The afterburn effect, as stated above, is also something to think about.

You need spotters for almost anything with a barbell. And you probably need someone to teach you how to lift weights properly if you haven't done so before (it sounds like you haven't).

Start a bit lighter, maybe a Push-ups or Pull-ups or just abs, then move forward to some other workouts. Hope this doesn't stop you from working out OP!

fat is fun...being in shape dangerous!!!

I know you're joking. I used to seriously think the same though. Until diabetes.
