It's not going to be perfect the first time- especially if it is someone's actual first time. Different people like different things, and as a couple you need time to figure out what the other person likes, what gets them turned on before you even get to the bedroom, etc. And even if, worst case scenario, you DO need to break out some batteries, there's no reason that you have to use them alone :P The important thing is communication, and a willingness on both sides to spend time figuring it out.
