I had that happen before. They told me if I recruited 100 people within a time frame they would take to a very fancy restaurant. I recruited 166. They then told me that after today i was no longer needed, but could I please watch the front desk while they go out to dinner to celebrate the recruiting of 166 new hires. I refused to open the door for anyone, did not answer the phone, and emptied a vending machine on a company card. Then I just left. Screw them.
I was hired at a company a few (ok, it was 20) years back. The engineers worked lots of overtime for months to deliver software on time. Then half were fired THE DAY AFTER they delivered the software. The explanation: they were no longer needed!
dude that really sucks dyl are you an archietech (did I spell that right) because recently happened to my dad we have to live with my aunt now because homes sent being built as much anymore
Sounds like you'd fit right in at the OP's job - they seem to like slackers over there
Thats what happened with my mom. She got a temp job that should have lasted for 3 months, she worked really hard and finished this one thing in 2 weeks- thats all they needed her to do, so they told her to not come back.
Oh, sorry, that really sucks. Let's hope you get to work at a place that appreciates u, I would so hire u! :)
Bottom line is a notice period is the ONLY guarantee in any employment. So your situation is great to put on your resume - get them to write you a letter you can use for the next interview. You can make a lot more money by finishing work ahead of time and moving to the next employer, than you ever will by making work drag out.
You can make more money that way, but only if you HAVE a next employer... for instance, I get paid by the hour, and even if I worked fast enough to finish before my deadline, I'd have to go back to school before I'd be able to get another job. So I get more money by taking my time and stretching the project out. I would feel kind of guilty for procrastinating, if my supervisor weren't encouraging me to and doing it herself.
Did you post that as an FML? Definitely qualifies!!!

I wish road workers had that kind of motivation so they would get off their asses and fix up all the roads they tear apart.
