is someone stopping you from getting one? so what if you buy a barbie..

I don't see anything wrong with that. I'm almost 20 and I collect special edition Barbies. Been doing it since I was 8 years old.

So do I! And I'm about to be 28. Don't worry about it

So what? Go buy a barbie. Kids eat ice cream, does that mean you don't eat ice cream anymore?

Hey I collect Godzilla figures. I wouldn't care if someone collected Barbies.

I don't mean this in a mean way, but I think adults are the only ones really getting excited about the new Barbies. When I was a kid, I never thought twice about the doll's body. I just liked that she was blonde like me. Kids do like toys they can identify with, but at that age they're not "curvy" (could be overweight though), nor are they petite or tall. I'm tall, but as a kid playing with the dolls, I was still only around 4' tall, so that didn't matter. On another note, I still love Barbie. I portrayed her in a Mattel Campaign (on a local scale), so the classic Barbie is near to my heart.

I will say, however, the expansion to different races, hair colors, and skin tones does make the doll more relatable to children, but they've been working on that for years.

I'd be excited, but not because it would be easier to relate to them. I liked having dolls that looked a bit different but similar enough to be the same kind of toy. It was much more fun pretending the dolls had different personalities and backgrounds instead of being all copies of the same thing.

Exactly! Kids don't think twice, they just want to play and have fun. Kids are just told to be politically correct by well meaning but over concerned parents.

Plus encouraging kids to be overweight, is that just contributing to the obesity epidemic?

Curvy Barbie is nowhere near overweight. Children aren't encouraged to be overweight anyway, they're encouraged to eat unhealthily and not exercise. Making them feel bad and excluded due to their appearance has nothing to do with promoting a healthy lifestyle. Unhappy children aren't healthy.

If you don't think Tess Holiday, a very popular model, isn't promoting obesity then you really need to look at today's media.

But nobody is talking about Tess Holiday in this thread...

It's because they all have different body types right? I think that's awesome

It's a big leap forward to have Barbies come in different sizes; be excited, flip out with happiness! The new Barbies are amazing.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. I'm 32 and I collect Monster High dolls and even have a few Barbies of my own. If you want one get one. Honestly, it's not that big of a deal.

So glad there's another 32 year old that collects Monster High dolls. Every Christmas, birthday, and Mother's Day my husband and boys know what to get me
