Today, I found out that I'm pregnant. I had an IUD put in two years ago that's supposed to prevent pregnancy. To put it in perspective, less than 1% of people using this IUD get pregnant. Lucky me. FML

#124, there is a plastic IUD with hormones and a copper IUD without hormones available in the US. There is another type of metal one available in some other countries as well.

I realize you had the IUD put in to prevent pregnancy, but kids are a blessing. Your child is special and there is some wonderful reason you conceived him/her.

I agree fyl, not for the 1% thing, but for the danger part. Being pregnant with an iud in place is EXTREMELY dangerous. You could have an ectopic pregnancy, pelvic infection, have a miscarriage or go into labor early. If the iud was only "for now" and you wanted kids someday (iuds only last 10 years max) it could be even worse. The damage this pregnancy could inflict can prevent you from ever having children. If you plan to keep the baby (or even if you don't) I suggest you see your doctor immediately.
