Today, I found out that my anxiety disorder has escalated to where I now scratch and pick at my face while asleep. Now I get to sleep with oven mitts taped to my hands. FML

It's a DISORDER. If this person's anxiety has gotten so bad that they've started doing that in their sleep, their life certainly is ******. You have no idea how horrible it is. I have severe anxiety that can sometimes prevent me from doing daily things. And don't call me a ******* emo because you don't have any idea about how it feels! This person isn't being a drama queen at all. You just need to shut up and go curl back up in your closet where you belong.

You should get little mittens with kittens on them!

Anxiety disorders suck. I'm SO glad mine doesn't effect my sleeping habits much. Occasionally makes me so crazy that I can't sleep, but almost never causes problems once I am asleep. I can't imagine How rough that must be. If you aren't already I'd try getting on some sort of therapy or medication. If you already are I would try something else, since it seems things are getting worse. FYL op, and I hope that you manage to get it under control somehow, sometime soon.

Wow that sucks. I also have anxiety issues. I have to chop off my nails so I won't scratch myself in my sleep or knaw them off until they bleed. I also pull my hair, tear paper, scratch my arm, and have bad anxiety attacks. Some people want me to go to a doctor, but I don't want to take happy meds. Instead, when I get really stressed, I take this all natural pill called nerve tonic. It's 100% natural, non-addictive, and it's over the counter. Good luck though and I hope you get better.

have you seen a therapist? i have bad anxiety because of a traumatic experience and my therapist has helped me a lot. i wasn't in school for a while because i was so afraid of people. i had a teacher come to my house so i could graduate high school. and now i'm actually going to school and making friends because my therapist helped me so much. and no, trolls, i am definitely not a drama queen. but, op. i usually advise against medication just because i think it's awful and usually unhelpful, but it sounds like you have a very serious case. don't get benzodiazepines(xanax, klonopin, etc.), they are very addictive. they will calm you down, but i don't think they would help you with your sleeping problem. i think a good thing for you would be buspar. it's a non addictive mild sedative, but it takes 2 weeks to kick in. i'm not a doctor so i wouldn't know, i just read about these things. and stay away from beta blockers unless you have high blood pressure. good luck, op. and ^ whoever i replied too. haha i forgot.

Nope, don't take that mind altering shit. I agree with #46. See a therapist if you have an 'anxiety problem', if they prescribe you drugs, see another.

oh hmm. i was scared to take it just because i heard a lot of people get addicted to it. but i'm happy it works for you. :)

medication can help. i have an anxiety disorder and ocd, and i'm on meds for it, and they, along with therapy have helped a lot. they don't change anything except for the amount of serotonin released into your brain.

ahh dude its kk :) oven mits r cumfy. i had anxiety problems for 3 years only, but it was like i couldnt get dropped off somewhere for fear i would never be picked up, and i attempted suicide 2 times because i was so scared . but it just.... went away last year:)

Oh, of course you should know all about that.

I dated a guy for two years and he developed this same thing.. but oven mitts didn't do it for him, he would put socks or something on his hands and even tape them and he would tear them off, or just scratch right through them. it was sad and scary. but you just have to try to work through it I guess and hope the doctors find a medication that helps. good luck, this is serious, know that you have support and that other's thoughts are with you. Other people judge because they have never had to deal with this, just don't listen, ignorance makes them judgmental. I'm sorry you're going through this. I really have seen if firsthand. Good luck!!
