Today, I found out that since I stopped shaving my legs, my boyfriend and his friends have started referring to me as a Wookiee. FML

What assholes! I hate it when guys assume women should just shave to be "pretty." It's absolutely ridiculous. Hair on the legs is natural. Guys don't shave their legs, armpits, or anything else. Such double-standards are misogynist and absurd. I'd find a new boyfriend. FYL.

Dear Feminazi, Shut the **** up. Thank you, drive through.

dude! just shave your legs! unless it winter time or you're not getting any, just shave! or trim! whatever!

why would you stop shaving your legs thats actually kinda gross

those legs can keep ya bf warm at night OP

Females should never stop shaving any part of there body... Just saying.

When all men start doing the same, maybe women will be more open to it. Men don't shave their legs because it's seen as weird. Women pretty well have to. Men don't typically shave their armpits. Women have to. Men don't usually shave their junk unless they feel like it. Women, again, have to. There's something ******* wrong with this idea. Sure, if you want to shave, by all means go ahead. If you don't, who gives a ****? It's hair. It's not going to give you a disease or something awful. It's not going to make you puke, you over-dramatic prissy queens. It's not going to do a damned thing. We don't exactly want a giant mouthful of hair when we're down south performing on you, just as you probably don't want a mouthful of hair when you go down on us. Fine. But what exactly is your excuse for armpit or leg hair then? I shave because I want to. Not because someone tells me I have to.

Your analogies are incorrect. Women don't have to shave, they choose to shave just like they choose to put on make-up. There is no profession that requires that a woman wears clothing that requires her to display her unshaven self to the world, except for maybe being a lifeguard, and they still aren't required to shave for that. Women shave because they want to be considered attractive, just like someone with a uni-brow.

No, they're not incorrect. You're just misinterpreting what I said. I didn't mean they had to shave because they're too hairy; I meant they have to shave to be accepted in most cases. Societies' standards dictate that women should shave... that's very evident through all these posts about women being gross if they don't shave.

Men have to shave their faces in order to work certain jobs, yet women only have to shave if they choose to in order to be considered attractive, not accepted. You're saying that women have to shave otherwise they risk their standing in life, which is untrue. Like the OP said, her boyfriend and his friends only teased her, she wasn't ostracized or otherwise rejected from the group of people she associates with. So yeah, they are incorrect.

She actually didn't say that her friends or others didn't ostracize her... she only mentioned her boyfriend and his friends because that was part of the FML. Most people who don't shave are ostracized or at least looked at strangely since they are strange according to the rest of society. How is that untrue? If they're looked at strangely at the very least that's a judgment call on society's part telling them they aren't normal. Is that not risking reputation? Anyway, of course men are required to shave for some jobs, but not all. Many places give men a choice; if they do want to grow facial hair it must be neat and maintained. Women don't exactly have that choice because it's seen as 'unclean' or 'untidy' to not have shaven pits and legs. On the flip side, it's seen as strange for a male to shave anywhere but their face and/or junk. What's with the double standard?! If it's not unclean or untidy for a male to not shave (I realize most people - men and women alike - wear pants to work) it shouldn't be for a woman. If a woman dares to wear a skirt with unshaven legs she's criticized for it; been there, done that. I forgot to shave one day and my hair wasn't even that long, but I certainly got some comments. FYI my hair isn't dark nor is it thick, but people still notice and judge.

I'm sorry but I think it's ridiculous to assume she was ostracized with so little information. You're just assuming that people are ridiculously biased against women who don't shave. Yes, most people aren't going to think it's not gross, but then most people don't think a man with a back like a rug is particularly attractive as I stated earlier. You keep trying to assert this huge gender bias that women HAVE to shave otherwise they will not have friends or be employed and that's simply untrue. What is true is that most people will not find them to be especially attractive, but then any women that aren't going to shave would be idiots to assume otherwise. Just like a person would be stupid to think that people will still think they're hot if they gain 200lbs.

that's where insecurity comes into play. if you're scared of what society thinks of you, too bad. us girls aren't forced to do anything. if you feel bad about not shaving, you need to aging ******* confidence in yourself. I shave because it makes me feel clean. not because society wants me to. I do think your analogies were all wrong.

Let's just face it. Shave your legs? Then perhaps they will refer to you as something more sexy, like Jar Jar.
