Today, I found out the identity of the pervert who's been staring at me through my bedroom window in the late hours of the night. My parents and I decided to set out a trap for 'him' instead of reporting to our local cop. Turns out, we caught my 37 year-old neighbor in the act. He's the cop. FML

Wouldn't it be nice if they invented some sort of way to cover your window to keep people from looking at? Maybe even add an easy way to uncover it if you want the view outside during the day. Oh, wait. They did.

Thank god you caught him! If you had just reported a peeping tom, he just would've gotten sneakier and you wouldn't have known. And, people shouldn't NEED blinds to keep people from looking in their bedroom windows at night! In a perfect world, people would respect others' privacy.

her curtains might be white and, as a result, see through.

to everyone saying that she needs blinds or curtains, you do realize you can STILL see through thems oemtimes. Do everyone one of you sit there and meticulously make sure EVERY crack in the blind or curtain is taken care of? I doubt it. I know someone who caught her (COP) boyfriend with peeping tom ****. Then after investigating it herself more? Discovered he was the one taking the film. 9 out of 10 of those videos the girls DID have the blinds closed. He positioned himself in a way where the camera could catch bits and pieces through the blinds. I had my blinds closed during a nap. There were even very prickly bushes outside my window for further protection. My creepy neighbor climbed around thema nd was peeking through a crack on the side of my blinds. Blinds help, but stop assuming the OP and others who have had toms peep at them don't use them. Most of them do. Unfortunately, when a peeping tom wants to see in, they can find a way.

Put up a bunch of posters of Edward Cullen and the Jonas Brothers and maybe he'll get creeped out and go away?

FYL, but that's pretty awesome that you caught him in the act. He has no business being a cop if he's also the town pervert. Just be sure to follow #92's advice so that he can hopefully be prosecuted. And everyone telling her to "get blinds"- she probably has them and uses them while changing like most of us do, but why should she have to keep them closed every day when she's fully clothed to prevent the the town POLICE OFFICER from invading her privacy? Use some sense instead of being so self-righteous.

It sounds like your parents were suspicious, and that's a good thing. In the world of crime, a general rule is that it can be anybody. Props to your parents for being such smart people.

Wow amazing what the damn pigs do now adayz

Telling a person whose privacy has been violated to get blinds is a lot like telling a person who is mugged that they shouldn't have had money on them. It places the blame on the victim and makes them responsible for actions outside their control. It allows people to either create a false sense of security (well, I have blinds so this could never happen to me) and objectifies female victims (it's a woman's responsibility to keep herself completely hidden because all men are powerless to resist their lust around attractive women. They can't help but break the law and harass women when they are attracted to them, so women must take all the responsibility to keep themselves safe or else it's their own fault). I would compare such a negative way of thinking to the old defense of "she was dressed provocatively so was clearly asking to be raped" but I'm afraid it's not such an old excuse, and I am honestly scared that some of you would claim that if a women dresses in a certain manner she deserves to be attacked. Because isn't that what you're saying here? That because this girl failed to completely hide her body she deserved to be harassed. Here's an idea. A woman should feel safe in her own home, or walking down the street, or going to bed no matter what she is wearing or how attractive she is, and men should behave like human beings. Most do. I can confidently say that all the most important/respected men in my life would be insulted at the claim that they have so little self control that the mere sight of a woman turns them into predatory, brainless animals who are unable to control a single passing impulse. This way of thinking is not only harmful to women by demanding they take full responsibility for the actions of strangers in every situation, but demeaning to men in the suggestion that they are nothing but slaves to their base instincts. Women should not have to cover every inch of their bodies and hide away from the world if they wish to not be harassed. They are human beings with all the same rights as men, and should be treated as such. This includes the freedom to feel safe when they leave the house and especially within their own home. Similarly, men should not be stereotyped as mindless sex drives. They, too, are human beings and instead of granting them forgiveness we should hold them to basic standards.

wow. all you people saying it was her fault, **** YOU. she might have had blinds, and even if she didn't, why should she need them? women shouldn't have to worry about police officers trespassing onto their property, and peeking through their windows. most people who want to see naked people just go onto the internet. #112, i agree... you just made me think of a few arguments for women in the military/police or anything like that, where the man argues 'the women will have sex with men' or 'women will tease the men' or 'its not our fault shes hot' or various things saying how its the womens choice to be there, so they should expect to be treated that way

Not one window in my house has curtain rods and most are oddly shaped. For probably a month before I nailed a blanket over my window so my room would be darker, I had a curtain thumbtacked over the window, but there were still gaps around it because it was too small. You could easily see around the edges. In my old house, someone once went by house (and my room was upstairs) and said my name loud enough for me to hear it. It was barely dark, and I had my blind drawn most of the way down, but it was too hot in my room to pull it all the way down, because it was the middle of summer and close to 40*C. Ever think about that? This was not the OP's fault in anyway and shouldn't be treated as such. And I'd assume (as anyone with a brain would) that the "trap" is a video camera filming the window.
