I'm pretty sure a gold-dipped rose is one of those gifts a girl is either going to adore or hate. I totally applaud the OP for his sweet romantic intentions; however, the real FML is that he didn't know his wife well enough to guess that she would be on the "hate it" side of the fence. But she *was* thoughtless about her comment. Sounds like one couple that needs to sit down and talk about what is considered romantic to whom. Hey, marriage is no fairy tale-- in real life, your Prince Charming can't read your mind about these things! I figured that out when my first Valentine's Day present (which was also the first anniversary of our engagement) was a hug : /

FUYL for having a prejudiced wife. Not quite racist because she didn't say any derogatory statements about Italians. She kind of said they are loving, romatic and give thoughtful gifts. Your wife needs some diversity classes.

What a bitch. Even if it wasn't her idea of a "perfect" gift, she should've at least been grateful and appreciated your thoughtfulness; lots of women would love a man who remembered anniversaries and picked out a nice present. Sell it on Craigslist.
