Today, I Googled my father, who I haven't seen in 3 years. The first website link was his obituary. When I confronted my mom about it, she said, "Oh, didn't I tell you?" and walked off. FML

Maybe your mum did just forget to tell you? Especially as you clearly had no contact with him for three years, and there might have been good reason for that. Or she did tell you and you weren't paying attention? Or you can believe your mum purposly didn't tell you because she's a bitch who didn't want you to know your father was dead just because she'd fallen out with him when you hadn't. Maybe ask her before you judge.

That is true. But maybe the mum has a good reason for hating the dad or not wanting to talk about him? My point was to not judge before you have all the facts.

I have to agree with Cinn. If teh mother walked away afterwards there's likely a reason she wants to avoid the subject. There isn't enough information to just assume she's evil. It's equally easy to accuse the OP of being a bitch for being oblivious to their father's death. Full facts are important.

My mother in law was married to a verbally and physically abusive asshole. He beat her, and one time dropped his newborn son cause he was trying to strangle his 9yr old step son. My mil dnever told the son the full extent of his father's abuse...so he thinks his dad is a good person. Maybe your mom was in the same boat. I mean there's a reason you haven't seen him in 3 yrs.
