Today, I had a really big debate in my English Class about the legalization of weed. My group had to state reasons why weed shouldn't be legal and no one except me had prepared. My partner came to class totally stoned. Our group lost the debate. We got a F. FML

Just point to your friend & say-this is why. Case closed.

Team grading is as stupid as grading a debate is as stupid as debating the legalization of marijuana in school. Everyone knows what the teacher wants to hear anyway. But it's funny that your partner was stoned and the team arguing for the legalization of it won.

So... you got a bad grade on something? OK, who hasn't? NOT AN FML.

I hate team grading. It seems no one ever takes it seriously, and one person ends up doing all the work. Your 'friend' shouldn't have even showed up, honestly.

Agreed with number 3... That should've been perfect evidence which you could of worked on and won..

and rat him out that he was high?

In my school at least, you can't get in trouble for that unless you actually have something on you. Pretty much all the teachers already know if you're high.

Of course you got "an" F in an English debate. If something as simple as an indefinite article evades you, you were screwed from the get go. FYL and your grammar!

#2, often, people get assigned to a side of a debate and don't choose it. Plus, he doesn't deserve an F for an opinion that differs from yours. And #3 - Haha!

Debates in English? I never did that. That's what Debate class was for. Also, doesn't English class end in 9th grade followed by Values, American Lit. I & II, Creative Writing, etc? /At least in the U.S.

#17, IIRC, our school just generalizes the English classes. English 9, English 10, etc. The biggest variation from that formula is AP English. Of course, each year focuses on different things. That's just the name of the course.

@15 I'm fairly sure that the OP is right about the indefinite article, since you usually use "an" before words with vowels. F doesn't look like one, but it sounds like "effe." Same with words like 'honorable.' All in all, I hate team grading.

YDI. Your partner provided you with the perfect argument, and you blew it.
