Today, I heard a baby crying while I was walking down the street. I walked around until I found it. In a dumpster. I immediately called the cops, completely freaking out. When the cops came, they pulled the baby out of the dumpster. It was a plastic baby doll. FML

You should have looked inside because if there really was a baby I would have went straight in, not wait for the cops.

You should've checked mate, but your heart's in the right place. I think. If it was a real baby, it could've died between the time you heard it and the time the police came in.

Well, what if it had of been a real baby? You did the right thing. Alot of people would have just ignored it. In grade 8 my class had to take home one of those doll thingers that cried, and you had to stick a certian key in its back to get it to stop crying, it looked so real. When I was at the mall, people thought I was a parent at age 13 because the thing started crying.. Dolls can look and sound real.

It's pretty amazing that people are slamming you for this because if you had ignored it and it had been real, it would have made you a jackass of epic proportions. Going into a dumpster to save a crying baby is also not incredibly smart because you have no idea if it is injured or if moving the rubbish would have killed it. Then that would have been on your head for the rest of your life. Leave the removal to the people getting paid to take care of that sort of thing. You did the right thing, and who cares that it was a doll in the end. Probably a good thing it was because anyone that would abandon a baby in a dumpster deserves to be shot.

Haha, I can totally picture some high school kid getting pissed at his stupid Parenting class doll and throwing it in the trash and stalking off. Hilarious, but did you even bother to look in the dumpster?

I don't think its an fml or ydi mainly because you did what you thought was right and in the end you discovered that it was nothing more than a fake doll, had it been a real baby you wouldn't have wrote this, do you feel awkward because you secretly hoped it was a real baby and you could be labeled as a hero for a day?

I do agree that trying to fish it out yourself could have been dangerous as it might have been injured. Perhaps you should have the lid off the dustbin to make sure it didn't suffocate, and then you'd have seen it was a doll (unless maybe it was hidden under the rubbish?) But whatever. Your heart is in the right place. A lot of people would have just walked past. I think you can actually feel pretty good about yourself in this situation. I'd like to have you around in a real emergency.
