For those saying she should have waited until they were married: don't jump to conclusions! There are many reasons a couple may not want to get married or may wait to get married even though they are totally committed. For example, many straight couples (including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) refuse to get married until gay couples have the right to marry as a form of protest. If they were together for several years, agreed to buying the house together the OP's boyfriend gave her no reason to worry...then this may not be her fault. #127 brings up a good point though.
LMAO. Naive much? :) The reason celebrities often don't get married is because the average celebrity marriage lasts less time than their hairstyles. Ugly divorce settlements are another reason. But "protesting gay rights" is much more media-savvy and friendly. But "could only afford with his help"? Then his name is on the mortgage, I guarantee you. Most mortgage lenders are, for some really weird, unknown reason, a lot more critical when looking over income statements...
oh. I guess that's why you should get a mortgage based on only one person's income instead of both. Because things like this always happen.
whats with these people breaking up with their partners through text? fyl.
That sucks... I own a house that my boyfriend doesn't help pay for (but lives in)... fortunately I did everything in my own name, including the loan, so I only got as much as I could afford.. for fear that this same situation would happen to me. If his name is on ANY of the papers, you can probably sue him... or his credit will at least be ruined because he'll probably default on something... Find a lawyer, maybe they can help you out. Otherwise, I agree with #123... get a roommate that can help you out. It would probably be more fun anyways.
umm your stupid for not getting married then...getting a house. thats how it worked in the olden days because both people had their names on it. What is so hard about getting married if you wanted to get a property together one more piece of paper wouldnt have killed ya.
Wow! What an ass! That's such a horrible thing to do! Though you should've waited until he got there if you were signing something so important, but still, jerk!
I have to call shennanigans. I think this a bs fml. Different states have a set number of days for recission, but they all have them (in TX, it's 3). I'm a mortgage officer, so I feel pretty confident in calling your bluff. At most, you would be responsible for closing costs/appraisals that were done at (or for) your behest, and you'll lose your earnest money (and possibly any realtor fees you've already agreed to pay). I do agree with others, though. This is DEFINITELY poor judgement on your part, so you deserve it.
That is horrible. I am truly sorry to hear that. Can you cancel it and risk few thousands of dollars in penalty fee. Or you can also continue with the house purchase and find housemates to help pay off the mortgage. Buying a house early can be a good thing if you can find a way to pay the mortgage.

Never take a mortgage you can't afford on your own. That's just asking for problems. What if you guys did stay together and one of you lost their job?
Oh my God! That's so ******* tactless of him! FYL. That guy's a douche, you're better off without him. Maybe you can find a nice roommate?
