Today, my adult son is visiting, sick on my couch with influenza A. He's spent all week screaming about how anti vaxxers are stupid, but admits that he didn't get a flu shot because, "they don't work." I got my flu shot and still got sick because I'm immunocompromised. He fails to see the irony. FML

Today i had a patient come into the practice six times to ask about vaccines they've had. Apparently, their "doctor" friend (with a PHD in arts) is a more reliable source of information than trained medical staff telling them, "Yes, that is in that group of vaccines" with a vaccine leaflet, and a head nurse explaining it all. FML

Today, someone who lives off the government stated that all I do as a front line nurse is wipe arses, and that I know nothing about Covid because I'm not a doctor. He refuses to get the vaccine as well. FML

Today, while chatting with my in-laws, I told them about my upcoming spinal surgery. Soon after, when I went to get us some drinks, I overheard them murmuring about how many surgeries I've already had, how I'm a drain on the healthcare system, and how I should ideally just die. FML

Today, I got tons of sympathy (and hugs) from my co-workers after intense sneezing and coughing due to my "seasonal allergies." When I got home, my SO asked if allergies are contagious, because he had them too. He didn't have allergies. We have Covid. And so do most of my co-workers now. I suck! FML

Today, I had to listen to my coworker complain about how working 19 hours a week leaves her with no time to go to the doctor and get her bronchitis treated. Meanwhile, I work 40 hours a week, as well as doing 18 credit hours at school, and she refuses to cover her mouth. FML

Today, I went into an exam room to do a check-up on one of my patients. I told the little girl's mother that she needed her flu shots. When the girl heard this, she took an apple out of her pocket and threw it at me. FML

Today, I spent ages at CVS waiting for a flu shot. The main cause of holdup was a disagreement between the pharmacist and the insurance company over 4 cents. FML

Actually, this is true. It's called herd immunity: the more people that get vaccinated, the less likely those that don't get vaccinated are to catch the disease, because those around them won't catch it

Flu shots kill and do more harm than good I have never gotten one nor do I ever intend to this has also proven correct with the chicken pox vaccine I got the chicken pox with no shot and my cousin got a shot for it yet he still got it

That also goes along with diet and vitamins minerals and herbs as long as they stay healthy they probably will not get the flu

he is correct the effect he was describing is call herd immunity but I would still recommend getting a flu shot instead of relying on others

Very well stated. As a fellow health professional I am always amazed by the number of doctors/nurses/etc. who do not get their flu shot, despite knowing the risk it poses to their patients. I will take a sore arm over a dead patient any day. Ours are even paid for by the government and many still chose not to get them. I bet if we got free ebola vaccines people would be lining up for them, but no one wants the shot that will help protect them from a disease that actually kills people in our country on a regular basis.

I'm so sick of uneducated individuals saying that the flu shot causes the flu. Seriously people it's called the Internet, you're using it now, EDUCATE yourself! ugh with that rant being over I personally do not get the flu shot because being in the health field I personally believe it's important to allow my body to develop antibodies against certain illnesses one of them being the flu, I perform hand hygiene like a crazy person and rarely get sick. but your Co workers are idiots and I'm sorry for that.
