Today, I poured my heart out into what had to be my greatest set of lyrics for my band ever, at the same time my teacher was explaining chemical changes to the class. At the end of the lecture he picked up my paper, and set it on fire to demonstrate a chemical change. FML

I am a teacher. Even if a student is not paying attention in class, I would never take their piece of paper away and set it on fire. Tell them to put it away, yes. Confiscate it for the rest of the period, yes. But destroying something of a student's is completely disrespectful. Some might argue that it's disrespectful to do other work during class, and I'd agree. However, the teacher shouldn't have taken that harsh of a measure to discipline him. Being a teacher doesn't give you license to be a bitch.

I'm so sorry, this really sucks. I used to do a lot of writing, especially in boring classes, and my teacher crumpled up and threw away a story I was writing once. Unfortunately for you, you were unable to recover your work :(

to all the idiots saying the lyrics sucked or the band will never do anything or is worthless, what the bloody **** do you know? have you read the lyrics? heard the band? so, only the bands that don't have high schoolers in them have a chance at making it big time? or can write lyrics that are good? get your ignorant heads out of your asses and wake up.

I agree that you should be paying attention in class but you did not deserve to have your art destroyed. That's totally ****** up.

ur band sucks anyway. i heard it once. thats how i got the world record in projectile vomiting

What an inconsiderate teacher! He could have just given you detention or something, rather than burn your work.

If you're not a middle-aged douchebag who goes to work in a suit in the bowels of the Disney Corporation manufacturing fake "stars," your music will never be heard by anyone. Pay attention in Chemistry class! You're going to need that for your meth lab.

That's what you get for not paying attention in class. Hope that music career takes off, or the chemistry gods decide to deem you worthy enough to help with your next test.

YDI for not paying attention in class. An education is much more likely to bring you success than a band.

Oh yes because everyone should just go the soul-crushing path instead of the one they enjoy, right?

Yeah, because everyone who chooses a nice stable career over "Exploring their music" has their soul crushed. Im sure when he's 40 and working a minimum wage job still trying to work out the lyrics that will make him big, his soul will be SOARING! My dad is currently in his 50s, working as a cardiac cath tech, playing his music at night or on the weekends, living in a house that overlooks the ocean, and painting. I guess when he chose to do well in school and chose the "soul-crushing" route, he really failed. If you have the drive, simple things like having a normal, stable career can't really stop you from expressing yourself.
