I'm doing the same thing
good for you. I hope you do great in the military.
Op if you want to join and that's your decision go for it because somebody will talk you out of it if you don't do it for yourself I salute you me being a vet myself, to me it was the best thing I ever did and if I could do it all over again I would but if you decide to go thank you for your commitment
well good luck no matter what happens.
I know it stinks. But do what YOU feel like you should/need to do. I've seen people make a complete change in their lives to partake in something the want and/or passionate about. Good luck on your journey!
My brother said the same thing and my parents started laughing because he's 18 and is still scared to go upstairs alone so how would he go into the army! So maybe OP is similar to my brother!
Possible, though people tend to forget there are those that come back in an entirely different fashion shocked by what they have seen and are frequently depressed. There are also those that are depressed because finding work returning to civilian life. Some times the skills are very specific that outside of use in the army/navy air force where they were were they don't apply in civilian life. I was scouted for recruitment when I was young and they loved the idea that I liked computers. Though the practical use of what computer systems I would have been working on vs. when I came back from civilian life didn't make sense.
So just do it then

Maybe they were laughing to hide their worries?
Thinking and doing are two different things. Show them what you're really made of!
