Today, I took a girl to a sushi restaurant for our first date. She insisted she's had sushi before, but I had to watch her struggle with the chopsticks for a few minutes before mercifully asking the waitress for a fork. She then ate a fork full of wasabi, thinking it was guacamole. I think there won't be a second date. FML

Maybe she was too shy to say that she hadn't? Some girls don't want to disappoint guys sometimes, so maybe she said yes because she knew you liked sushi?

At least she didn't mistake the wasabi for pistachio ice cream :P

Not everybody who eats sushi uses chopsticks! This is America, we use forks. And not everybody eats that crap, something about that brain worm turns peeps off.

They freeze the raw fish first, which kills off any potential parasites. Have been eating sushi for decades in multiple restaurants across Canada with no brain worms whatsoever. ;)

Good for you. You have to think about who you are going to have kids with. Would anyone want to reproduce anyone so brainless?

If she'll lie about something as insignificant as sushi, then there's no way you could trust her with anything at all. She was doing you a favor, really.

Kinda stupid to lie about something like that. And then get caught in your own dumbness. She may have had a better experience had she just asked for help.

Maybe she was nervous? But hey she agreed to go out with you so that's a good sign ;) id give it another date but maybe something easy like burgers and a shake

I would get teased about eating sushi for lunch in primary school, so it's amusing to hear of someone lying so adamantly about eating it when they can't even handle chopsticks. I would've offered to help out at that point but the wasabi would be the point of no return. Probably better to move on for that one.

I don't see why she's being made out as if she's dumb when she clearly hadn't had it before. I didn't know what to do with sushi before, and she clearly told the little white lie because she likes you and doesn't want the embarrassment. This hardly means that you can't ask her out again.

For over a year I've been getting sushi every Monday night. I always open chopsticks but after the first roll, I've forgotten about them. Sushi is now my favorite food and my chopsticks skills are ehh. In terms of the guacamole, I'm thinking two things. 1, all my rolls have avocado in them so it's not like avocado is so far removed from sushi. 2, she could've eaten sushi when she was younger or packaged from a grocery store and didn't know about wasabi, just knew she was okay with the taste and texture of sushi. Send her my way, I'll take her on another sushi date.

I think op is kinda the jerk just because she's never been to a sushi restaurant doesn't mean she's not a great girl and she probably felt really bad because you were probably rolling your eyes and being a jerk if you felt the need to make an FML about it

You can say things got "hot and spicy" ;)
