Today, I took a video of a fellow employee doing nothing but watching YouTube videos at work. When I showed the video to my boss, hoping he'd be reprimanded, I got fired for operating video equipment on company grounds. FML

That's brutal. Perhaps anonymity is the way to go.

Nothing to do but upload it to Youtube...

I think we all should contact your ex boss on your behalf to have you reinstated... that is ridiculous

So is your suggestion, especially since the votes are not exactly in his favor.

ydi it for being a snitch. u should spend more time worrying about yourself and less about other people

Mind your own feckin' business. You deserved it

Why would you rat someone out? What are you, in kindergarten? YDI for snitching.

Let me guess, you put a girl's pigtails in paint in kindergarten and are still bitter someone turned you in? I don't get this "don't snitch" culture. When rules, policies, laws, are violated, this should be brought to the attention of the proper authority. That's what I was always taught, at least. And if the proper authority isn't doing anything, you go above their heads. You don't just pretend you didn't see anything.

"I don't get this "don't snitch" culture. When rules, policies, laws, are violated, this should be brought to the attention of the proper authority. That's what I was always taught, at least." I completely agree with this. While I was growing up and still in school, I was bullied to the point where I nearly committed suicide. It wasn't just the children, it was some of the older teachers too. One particular incident stood out of all the rest, though. There was a day where this girl pushed me against a fence into a dead rose bush over and over. The fence would bounce me back and she would get another chance to push me. A crowd gathered and started to cheer. Why were they cheering? What had I possibly done to deserve this? Many questions flashed by, including 'why me' and 'why this'. I had no idea how long this went on, but I was bleeding from various holes and scrapes. Doing what I was taught, I went to the recess teacher on duty; bleeding and sniffling. Know what she told me? "Nobody likes a snitch." Excuse me? As a child, I was heart-broken and didn't know what to do beyond that point. Oh sure, when I went home I told my parents. "Kids will be kids," they told me. On that day, my hatred for people began to grow while oddly enough, at the same time, so did my 'compassion'. By-stander effect? Hell no, not me. I'll gladly be that 'one guy' that doesn't mind his own business and checks up on you if I see a problem. If people hate me for it, then so be it. It's also a reason why I take CPR classes and keep my license up-to-date, just in case I ever needed to save a life because I hate them. A bit of an oxymoron, but perhaps it's because deep down inside, I'm trying to console the young lad that wished someone would have stood up for him when he was younger and needed it. Now it's my turn and I choose to fight against human nature and apathy, because I know from experience; sometimes there's no one else that has the balls to do it but yourself. By no means I believe I'm 'perfect', as no such thing exists for a human being, but at the very least I try to squeak by as 'decent'. Crazy rant aside, I know I sound like some sort of social justice warrior, but I will let something slide quite a few times before it really starts to attract my ire. If I spot you goofing off once in a while, but I also know that you work your ass off, then I wouldn't give a shit. Once it becomes chronic and it goes to the point where I'm picking up your slack, I'm gonna start complaining. Frequently and loudly. The author shouldn't have video taped their co-worker if it was against company policy, even if they just left his phone or camcorder on the desk and let it do the work. Don't fight a wrong with another. It's an HR issue, and the author should have brought it up after their shift to someone that they know that gets shit done. That way the chance of something being done about it is somewhat increased. Even HR will sometimes have their hands tied due to some companies having bat-shit crazy rules and regulations that would make even the most loyal rule-follower furrow their brow. A bit late, but lesson learned for future encounters. Hopefully the author can find a job that has co-workers who actually work, and by the sound of it on FML comments... good luck.

I agree #120. I was sent to the principal for disruptive behavior multiple times as a child, when I was just trying to report the boys in my class bullying me (my old lady teacher had a very boys will be boys attitude and told my father to his face it was just them trying to flirt with me). It wasn't until a separate teacher, who was tired of witnessing it everyday and my teachers sweeping it under the rug for several years, threatened to go to the school board did anything get done about it. A lot of times going over some ones head is the only answer. Unfortunately, in the working world there's only so many times you can report and go over someone's head before it becomes background noise. At the point OP got desperate enough to film the coworker goofing off the manager was probably fed up with the complaints taking up their time. At that point OP really should have backed off and let the coworker hang themselves. I completely understand the frustration OP feel, I have a couple coworkers whose incompetence has endangered patient safety multiple times and they keep surviving.

You SO deserved it. Let's see, what rhymes with "little Bitch"??

You're a prick. Ever mind your own business?

Regardless of everyone calling you a 'snitch', the problem here is that you literally wasted all that time investing in someone else's business. Why do you even care? Especially considering, as I said, you wasted just as much time as they did.
