Today, I took my driver's test. I did everything flawlessly, but my examiner kept all but pissing his pants throughout. He yelled, "ARE YOU TRYING TO GET US KILLED?!" when I drove past a traffic light just as it was about to turn red. The road was almost empty. He failed me on the spot. FML

For the test, you need to play it overly safe. Then, once you're granted a license, drive like every other crazy ******.

Your and his perception of flawless driving clearly differ. I trust his judgement more.

With a drivers test. You have to play safe. If it turns yellow stop without slamming on your brakes. If you make it past with barley staying yellow. Its a red in a officers book, because what they are going to see is " that car just ran a red light. not oh he made it with time to spare. " sorry OP I am with the examiner here. next time stop for yellows.

And it couldn't even be close to flawless. Unless things have changed since I took it, you had to screw up 3 aspects of the test to actually fail.

That depends on how big of a screw-up you have. For example, if a pedestrian has tripped and is lying down on the highway and can't get up, then running him over is still just 1 mistake. But that one mistake is enough to let you fail your test.

Rules in australia... Or at least queensland is stop at yellow if safe to do so. So in those conditions it would be a fail here too. So is hitting the curb under any circumstances.

YDI I'm from Jersey, but spent several years up in Long Island and it never ceases to amaze me that most Jersey people can't drive in bad weather or just in general. A lot of people take stupid chances while driving that cause so many accidents it is unbelievable.

It doesn't matter whether the road was empty or not, he was seeing if you followed the rules which is what matters in the test. YDI with a passion!

Um...you're supposed to follow the road rules EVERY time you're driving, not only when there are cars around you.

I failed my first time for letting a car go through a stop sign ahead of me because someone was crossing the street

If you knew the light was "about to turn red", why did you go through it? Yellow is a warning, not a speed challenge. Given that you are arrogant enough to think you know better than the examiner just demonstrates exactly why you should absolutely not be put in charge of potentially lethal machinery.

I did that exact thing during mine. My instructor gave me kudos and passed me :D
