Generally speaking lights turn yellow before red. You aren't supposed to start going through a light when it is yellow. I'm guessing that's why they failed you.
Your definition of flawless is completely WRONG!!!!! You failed because you deserved to fail! You should not be allowed on the road until you understand that you cannot do whatever you damned well please behind the wheel because you think you know it all! Note to jeragnom - You missed a stop sign and deserved to be failed on the spot. Stopping ahead of a stop sign ( your 1/2 a feet was probably three feet ) is not how it is done - you too deserved to fail - both of you stay the F off the road until you grow up and learn the rules!
My driving instructor went in and asked what the route was for the test. We drove that route probably 200,000 times till the van could almost drive it without me! lol When I took the test the first time - he took me downtown, through a construction zone. The traffic for your lane wasn't in front of you (due to the construction), but I didn't realize that. So, the light in front of me turned green, the truck in front of me went, I went and the next words were "you just failed. Go back to the station."
OP, you have a real self-esteem issue here; namely, you don't realize your head is up your ass. Get that sorted out before you get back on the road. Your life - and others' - may depend on it.
ydi. when ure being tested, u don't do as u please. I'd stop at green to pass
you deserved it. if you actually follow the rules you'd know that if its yellow you need to slow down and if at all possible stop. it doesn't matter if it was "almost empty" i know this and i don't even have my licence.
Trying to beat a red light when you should be stopping isn't flawless driving. YDI.
I'm sorry he was freaking out like that, but about the immediate fail, that's normal. Being that close to a red light is actually an automatic fail. I've heard about that happening to my friends and it sucks, but just retake it. You'll most likely get a different teacher.
I got the same one when I went to take it the 2nd time. He greeted me with "So, you came back." I replied with a very loud "Yes I'm ready to tackle the construction zone on my driver's test again!"
those pesky traffic lights...

For the test, you need to play it overly safe. Then, once you're granted a license, drive like every other crazy ******.
Your and his perception of flawless driving clearly differ. I trust his judgement more.
