op, it was so truly lovely for you to do that for this person. I'm so sorry for you that it backfired :-( what a great human being you are.
Why so many YDI's?
Because apparently you should never help anyone ever or else you deserve however they treat you. I think op was very kind, and it was unfortunate that this happened.
Because thinking you shouldn't let strangers sleep in your home automatically means not being kind to anyone ever. Totally makes sense.
I cannot count the amount of times someone on this site did something kind, got screwed over, and then people tell them they deserve it for trying to do something kind.
You're so stupid op
Maybe he wasn't used to sleeping on something so comfortable and it was an accident. Good on you for your kind heart OP
You say it's his habit to pee where he sleeps? Wow, that's absolutely rude.
Hey there, OP here. I figure it's about time to weigh in. As one of you has astutely observed, I have not given you the whole story. I said this man was homeless I never said he was a stranger. That being said, I did not know him well and it was obviously a mistake. He was friends with a few other people I know and trust. I normally have very little trust for others but after spending a decent amount of time talking to this man, he just seemed so dejected and only kept talking about how tired he was and how all he wanted was a good night's sleep. I had recently purchased a table that day that I could not move myself nor did I have others to help so I thought a fair trade for a nights rest would be to help me move the table into my apartment. The man did not smell and appeared to have decent hygiene or he would not have been allowed in my house. Additionally, others have mentioned mental health issues. This is something I am very passionate about and literally have a PhD in, specifically in psychosis, so I am well aware of spotting these symptoms. I am aware of the dangers but I also know how blown out of proportion these risks are by the media. I know this invites further criticism but hey everyone makes mistakes and at least my mistake was for the sake of making life a little better for one person, not just by letting him get a good night's rest but also by showing him some people care.
It's sad that you got so many YDI votes, you were very kind. I'm sorry that happened.
You're a lot more trusting than I am. I wouldn't even let certain family members crash on my couch, let alone a complete stranger.
It could've been worse, he could have stole your valuables and you wouldn't know until you woke up.

Didn't you show him where the toilet was?
