Well if you felt you weren't getting paid what you deserved, then this might have been a good thing. Just gotta find a new job and work even harder at it :D

Were you fired for asking or was he gonna fire you anyway? Anyway, I wish you good luck in finding a respectable job that'll pay you well!

You got a raise in free time at least

Well I hope you find a better job than that **** gave you. Good luck!

you really love that word don't you?

He got downvoted for it last time, so he thought he'd go for round two.

have faith. everything happens for a reason. Next you're going to say You walked out of your old job unemployed and walked into a new one making twice as much. good luck :)

You guys must have seriously different trading standards in the U.S. In the UK they can only fire you for misconduct and incompetence. They can make you redundant but they have to give you a pay off. No way could they fire you for asking for a raise... Unless you're on a zero hour contract or your contract have expired.

depending on the state your employer can fire you for no reason at all except if it is a discriminate reason. I am under the impression that OP may have given the boss the I need a raise or I will leave ultimatum which a lot of people like to go for. The OP never said they got fired, they were just unemployed. it could've been by their own choosing.

I guess that's why people in the UK are such shitty workers if it's nearly impossible to fire them. I say this as someone born in the UK and with English relatives I love dearly, including my father. My sister used to work for a US based international company. Because of her British heritage, they assigned her to coordinate with the UK office. She said the experience was infuriating. People would inform her they were leaving work early because, no joke, they had to, "go to a dance lesson," or even, "meet [their] friends at the pub." She would incredulously remind them that there was still work to be done before the end of the day, but they didn't care. That attitude toward work is nearly unheard of here in the US. I'm not saying US labor laws don't have their own problems, but they sure do make for a more productive work place.

One step forward, two steps back. At least it's better than standing still; walk tall OP and good luck in finding a new job that values you appropriately.

They can't sack you for asking for a raise. I'd seek legal advice

In a lot of places in the U.S., you can get fired because it's half past 3 on a Thursday. They don't need a reason here.

Yes in CA it's an at will employment state so you can get fired for wearing a shirt your boss doesn't like or for literally nothing at all.

that is shocking .. why did you get fired? misconduct? or it was planned by your boss before? any way your life sucks OP

Well since you were fired you can file for unemployment so you got that going for you OP

If you really deserve more money for your time then that place wasn't for you. Hope you find a better job.
