Awww I'm sorry. You're sweet for trying to help. I'm sure the girl appreciated it.
What?! That sucks!! :( I'm sorry. Like #69 said, you're really sweet for doing that, though, and I bet the girl did appreciate it! :) #1 - LOL. I love you.
You idiot! Dad's like to be told they are beautiful too!
first of all, op, that was an incredibly sweet gesture. I hope the girl felt better afterward. secondly, to everyone who says it's a fake, if the father was enough of a dick to be hassling his 'young' daughter in a restuarant loudly enough for other people to hear it, he probably was dick enough to hit someone for it. Not reeaaally that surprising.
i voted FYL... first of all, the word "beautiful" is pretty innocent. if he had said "hot" than it would be a different story... but "beautiful" could easily apply to a child in a nonsexual way. secondly, as far as him "hitting on" her... walking by someone's table and saying "by the way, you're beautiful" and then walking on is a LONG way from hitting on someone. hitting on someone involves winks, eye contact, etc.... and thirdly, in a public place where you're all sitting pretty close together, you can hardly call it "eavesdropping." sometimes you can't help hearing stuff. if you over-heard two guys planning where they were doing to plant a bomb, would you call it "eavesdropping" if you reported it to the police? if the father and daughter were really having a private conversation, they would wait till they were home. however, I agree that maybe it would have been more tactful if the OP had said it to the father instead of the daughter. but it was still a sweet thing to do, as compliments from strangers generally mean a LOT more than compliments from friends or family. strangers don't have any reason to lie to you. definitely did NOT deserve a punch! I hope the father doesn't do that to his poor kids' boyfriends in the future!! a definite FYL.
Will everyone please stop telling the OP he was eavesdropping? Has no one ever overheard people talking that they weren't intently listening to? You know, children tend to talk loudly even in public, especially girls that are upset.
This is an FML? Really? No...no no no no no... FML would be if your parents came home and said, after hearing your tale about how you don't have a house key and the doors were locked, "We know". Followed by them entering the house and closing the door behind them leaving you outside. Just simply being locked out for 2 hours when you have a car and can go someplace and **** off until they get home is not an FML you whining little bitch. And another big FU to the mods here at FML for letting another shitty post through.
Haha thats what you get you pervert
Uhh.. there's something wrong with fmylife.com! Looks like the comments up till #74 are for a completely different FML!
Whoa that's strange. The FML just changed after I posted comment #77 so that now its about a girl at a restaurant. Before, it was about someone getting locked out of their house (like what comment #75 refers to).

see, this is why we can't have nice things.
How is it fake? The dad could have thought he was hitting on his daughter. @OP: that was still a very sweet thing to do. :)
