If you have (had?) $13,500 worth of books and you're working, why don't you have your own place? I'm sick of all the FMLs saying "my mom did this, my dad said that"......yadda, yadda, yadda. If you're 18, and graduated from school, GET YOUR OWN PLACE!

My dad's mother cleaned out his room when he left home for France for a year (back in the 60s) and threw out a program signed by all of the Brooklyn Dodgers. FHL.

Having those books doesn't necessarily mean you bought them. I have a set of leather bound classics from my grandfather that are worth a few hundred a piece, and I didn't buy them. And so, even though the OP would have had the money had she sold the books, you don't sell books like that unless you're in dire financial straits. I'd have killed my mother, not just because the books were worth a lot, but just because they were books, and I never throw books away. The thing about these FML's is that they never tell you the end of the situation. It's very likely that the mom knew what the books were and was joking just to make her daughter spaz for a minute.
