Today, I was discussing the possibility of other life in the universe with my friend. She said the universe isn't big enough for it to be possible, and that we would know about it already, because "there are only 8 planets in the universe." FML

You do realize that there are only 8 planets right? Pluto is no longer a planet, scientifically. I still consider if a planet, but she is still correct. They ruled Pluto to not be a planet. So you look pretty dumb for trying to make her look dumb.

Okay so that's 1 more. All the "thousands of planets" people are talking about, are just candidates, they have yet to be confirmed. So, sorry let me correct my post "There's 8 planets in our galaxy, 1 in another"

Ok, this is bugging me. The terms 'universe', 'galaxy' and 'solar system' are not the same. There are currently 8 defined planets (not including dwarfs or planetoids etc) in our solar system. There are many, many more planets (not necessarily confirmed or whatever yet) in our galaxy, and many, many more in the universe.
