Today, I was forced to spend New Years Eve with my strict/conservative parents in the middle of nowhere in Illinois. If I had nothing else, I looked forward to watching the ball drop in NYC. As the seconds counted down the T.V. shut off. Parental controls shut down cable at midnight. FML

That's why I hate parental controls so much. Parents don't know how much torture it is! We're not going to look at **** mom and dad. We want to go on facebook...

No actually it's not recorded, they show the ball drop live here at 11pm central. They show local/Chicago countdowns at midnight. So if the OP wanted to watch the ball drop she would have been able to long before the tv shut off at midnight.
