Today, I was reading a book on paper for the first time in maybe a month. I had to stop at a word I did not recognise. Because I'm so used to using a Kindle, I tried to get the definition by pressing it. I had my finger on the word for a few seconds before I realised it was paper. FML

I've done similar. While writing a paper and spelled a word wrong I waited for auto correct to correct my spelling.

You did not recognize* it. Looks like your spelling is as bad as your reading..

While I agree that it's odd for somebody in the States to spell recognise with an s rather than a z (as recognize), you will see from above comments that this is, in fact, an accepted spelling (notably in British English, but also in Canada, Australia and other Commonwealth countries I believe). If OP is not actually American it may explain this. Please correct your poor knowledge of variations in the English language before you try to correct others.

Kindle has only been out a short time. Get back to basics! Read with a paper dictionary at your side and look words up that you don't know.
