Today, I was walking through town when I saw a plastic bag on the ground. Trying to be a good citizen, I picked it up, intending on throwing it in the trash. When I looked up, there wasn't a trash can for another hundred feet. So I put it back down. Now I've got a $200 fine to pay for littering. FML

So walk the extra hundred feet. How is that a big deal?

a plastic bag doesn't weigh anything and it wouldn't have taken any extra effort to walk the 100 ft. your laziness disgusts me. you completely deserved it.

OH NO!!! 100 FEET???!?! I could never walk that far to help the environment.

I clicked both. 100 ft isn't that far but $200 is pretty steep when it wasn't yours in the first place. But once you started trying to do a good deed, you shouldn't have put the trash back on the ground. I've done road clean ups before, like on the part of the road that a school group I was in adopted (like that Adopt-a-Highway thing?). Never noticed how much trash was all along even a relatively small stretch of road before that, but there was a whole lot to pick up. It's kind of sad how much people throw out of their cars. Why don't they just keep a small trash bag in front of the front seat? I don't understand.

ok so you were WALKING THROUGH TOWN and u didnt wanna WALK the extra 100 ft??? and then u put it BACK DOWN??? ok does anyone (besides me) notice that these FMLs are just becoming stupid?

if you were "walking through town," why didn't you just keep on walking to the trash can? seriously...100 ft isn't that far...it's actually pretty close to have a trash can on a town street

"The FML is that he got a ticket for somebody else's litter. How can anybody deserve to be punished for another person's crime?" because, as soon as the OP touched it....it became thier trash not the person that left it there to begin with, not the several people that walked past it with out even looking at it. it became the OPs trash

You couldn't just put it in your pocket?

#99 Yes, legally, it became their trash. That doesn't mean it's not stupid. The OP has no more responsibility to throw it away than any other passer-bys, and ignoring it is just as bad if not worse. Of course, we all ignore other people's trash every day, so I guess we all deserve fines. For ignoring trash. Oh wait, that sounds stupid, because it is.
