well japanese does also use Kanji which are chinese. japanese also uses other scripts though, like katakana.

Whether or not she is native Chinese, the Japanese and Chinese use the same characters. In mainland China, out side of Hong Kong, they tend to use simplified characters. In Taiwan and Hong Kong, they use the traditional characters, although simplified and traditional are subjective: some traditional characters are simplified from more complicated characters etc. Meanwhile, the Japanese use the same characters, but usage is different. A fluent reader of Chinese or Japanese will find about 60% of written material is mutually intelligible, but differences in grammar might make it difficult. In addition, Japanese employ hiragana and katakana, while Chinese doesn't. To confuse the issue even more, Chinese will write the character 女 a sめ and 安 as あ when writing in cursive. The characters め and あ have wormed their way into Japanese as hiragana, however. some japanese writing is the same as Chinese silly. When I went to Japan, they had ancient temples that had Chinese writing and i asked why. They said one form of japanese was originated from Chinese so that's probally why. Modern Japanese is the rounded kind. Traditional is similar to Chinese.

Dude ! Japanese kanji and Chinese ideograms are the same ! The symbol for mountain writes exactly the same (they just don't pronounce the same) It's like me writing alphabet letters and Russians thinking i'm so good at writing English..

Most Japanese and Chinese words are written the same just their meanings are different sometimes but have some type of connection. I would know: my friend is Chinese. So, she didn't make a mistake.
