Today, my apartment was robbed by my landlord. Her logic? "I own the building, and therefore everything in it." That TV cost more than my rent. FML

This is mine. we did call the cops. we have to prove its our tv so now we have to find the receipt from 2 years ago. her whole family is into illegal shit. her son got arrested recently for forging the mayors signature. we intend on moving as soon as we find an available apartment.

Call the cops, man. That ain't legal.

Start stealing from her suite. When she confronts you, say it's not stolen because it's still in "her" building.

You shouldn't have to prove the TV is yours if it was bought that long ago. You're word should be better then hers... just get some family members or friends who you trust to talk to the cops, I'm sure they've seen it if it's been there that long.

umm actually, you can press charges cuz no she doesn't

155: how am i a push over and an idiot when we called the cops and are taking legal action? stfu. 158: our rent was paid on time and in full. we are good, hard-working, honest tenants. she's a money-grubbing bitch. I already know we'll win the case. she has no grounds for anything, and we have all the proof we need. luckily my lawyer is a family friend. so are a few judges, and my mom went to school with half of the local police force, so we've got some pull.

Awesome =) Someone's gonna rue the day they ****** with you!

Good thing you got backup! =) ...and legal eagles.

glad to here it. and if it isn't too much trouble, can you let me know what happens afterward? I know it seems obvious that she will go to jail cause she has no right to legally take your things, but i still want to know how bad of a punishment that greedy son of a bitch got. Of all the bad people that try to justify what they did. this one really takes the cake and personally pisses me off the most.

Best of luck with the case, and let us know how it went if you can. It would be great to be reminded that there is some justice in the world.

Pay your rent. Look in your contract you'll see that she can take your belongings in lieu of rent when u don't pay

They cant take her belongings. They would have to get a court order. And OP never said anything about not paying rent or owing money. One should never assume.

The OP already said in the comments that she always was on time with the rent.

Can you not read? She said so many times she pays her rent on time.

As someone who has 13 rental properties, your landlord cannot do that. They cannot enter your rental without your permission, for any reason and They most definitely cannot legally take anything from it without a court order. To the people posting about hidden clauses, a clause like that would never hold up in any court. It doesn't matter if OP signed. All contracts have to be fair.

Landlords may NOT enter your apartment without @ least a 24 hour notice, unless there is an immediate emergency (such a a fire/broken water pipes, etc)...NO, they don't own ANYTHING in the apartment (unless you moved into an already furnished one) call the police, have her arrested for breaking & entering, burglary, invasion of privacy, then her to court with a good lawyer and soon you may OWN the whole building.(but not everything in it)
