Good employees respect their boss enough to call them up and say "I won't be in on time" or at least have a back up in your case and got someone to call for you. It's called communication.

I find most of these comments extremely ignorant and feel as though there is no compassion left in this world. OP broke their arm for gods sake! I'm sorry, but when I broke my arm, the only thought running through my head was, "get to the hospital". Once at the hospital, breaks usually get in pretty quick for assessment, therefore, there is no time to worry about your boss. Emergencies happen, and all employers know this. Sure, if OP had blown off the whole day without a phone call or showing up, I could understand, but a few hours late? That would be like me going into early labor. The last thing on my mind at that point would be to call my employer. Yes it may inconvenience them for the day, but my health is more pressing to me than my employment. I'm sorry you broke your arm OP, it sucks. I'm sorry your boss is a jerk, and I'm sorry your boss seems to be getting the sympathy here. Good on you for being dedicated enough to go in after such a short time. I hope it heals good and you feel better soon!

If you didn't phone to let him know, then I can understand how they would be annoyed. I fainted on my way to work whilst pregnant and when I came round I got some one to phone my boss.
