Not such a bad metaphor actually. Not many people understand that sexual desires and romantic attraction can be treated as two different things, although they can have their connections. I guess what he meant to say is that although he truly does love you, he has the guts to tell you he wants to get more out of his sex life. But without having to do it behind your back. You have to admire his honesty. But hate how he thinks sex is more important.
