When I admit the stats are a mere example, you can't call them out as false evidence. I'm going based off what I've seen as well, and your studies mean nothing if I can't see them. i dont see gay men wearing bondage wear, but I have seen some who like Hello Kitty. I'm not saying OP's boyfriend is gay, not seriously. I'm saying it's a logical, not fair, logical, assumption. I get gay comments all the time, but I don't get mad because I know having Wicked in my iPod gives logical room for assumptions.
