Today, my boyfriend told me he hasn't been to the dentist in two years and definitely doesn't plan on it because, "That's just how the government steals more money." FML

If he still takes care of his teeth I don't see why it matters.

He still brushes his teeth right? he doesn't use breath mints to cover his breath for 6 months?

That's not that bad. It's not like he hasn't brushed his teeth in said time, which, I gather, he has seeing as you didn't notice until now.

I didn't see a dentist for 11 years. Honestly, as long as you take care of your teeth. There is no reason to go in constantly. I needed very little done when I actually did go in. Just my wisdom's pulled. I do not understand why people think this is disgusting.

As long as he brushes & flosses , I dont see the problem.

That's not how the government steals more money, It's how the dentist steals more money. There's no need to go if he takes care of his teeth and doesn't have any problems.

maybe OP's boyfriend is scared of the dentist and doesnt want to admit it.

You sound like someone who has been fortunate to be on a parent's dental insurance. A majority of people do not have dental insurance these days.

That's true, Brush at least once a day, with toothpaste and then hot water, then floss and you're good to go

Hot water? American Dental Association guidelines make no reference to water temp. It's a matter of preference.

I wonder what kind of teeth the people here have who thinks it's disgusting to not have been to the dentist. Must be quite icky if they need to visit dentists that often to maintain good mouth hygiene. I haven't been to the dentist for.. Almost five years or something, and I still don't need to. But then again, I'm able to brush my teeth and stuff like that.

I go twice a year for dental cleanings because its covered on my dental insurance. Plus fluoride treatments. If I am paying for the insurance, I am gonna use it.
