To be fair, winning a contest does not necessarily mean either of you are ready for marriage. Though his selling it instead of locking it in a safe deposit box indicates that he really needs the cash or doesn't see himself being ready anytime in the near future either.

Maybe you're not "wife" material

He won it not bought it. would you really want him to ask for your hand just because he came across a ring? And why would you want a generic ring anyway. Maybe he'll use the money on you. anyway this is not an fml you just seem a bit selfish.
