Today, my friend and I were in her mom's car talking about which job was harder: actor or artist. I said, "Art is easy. You just scribble on a piece of paper and call it abstract art." Her mom squinted at me in the rear-view mirror and my friend stopped talking. Then she said, "My mom is an artist." FML

well youre an idiot because art is much more complicated ... ... I can't draw for my life nor can I pass it off like I can ... meanwhile people will see a movie with jessica Simpson and call that "acting" ... it ain't hard

...honestly? Comparing actors and artists is like comparing apples and pears. Done well, each require talent and effort.

That ain't entirely true .... U do need have some knowledge and discipline to make any type of art...... Try and know ur audience before u get up on the stage??

I think people need to remember that everyone has an opinion and that was yours. Who cares if it was wrong or right? Acting is hard and art is hard. People who say acting is easy and then go turn around and get on your case are really kind of hypocrital. Personally, the artists I know are stuck up bitches who think they're so much more talented than everyone else but that's the thing. People can be talented in anything, not just art. And anything can be difficult. But that's just my opinion.

What a bitch the mom is. People in this country need to learn how to take things light-hearted. It's not like you were saying anything personal.

I do both acting and drawing, so I'm pretty neutral here. Acting can be very stressful if you're saddled with a part you don't like and can't understand, or if there are difficult costars. Art could be, too, if you had deadlines or pressure to work in a certain way. And of course, it depends on what your definition of acting and art is. Personally, I think if you were a stage actor that did a 2+ hour show every night, it would be an extremely demanding job because there's a lot of time that goes into blocking, rehearsing, and line memorization. But if you were a child actor on a TV show, well, that's different. And considering that there are so many types of visual art, like painting, drawing, sculpting, digital art, special effects, typography and logo design, it's also unfair to lump all those categories together. Apples and oranges, I think.

did your friend's mom actually get mad at you for saying that? if she's an artist, she must get that all the time. it's understandable, because loads of "art" really is just scribbles on a piece of paper, but many artists (probably including your friend's mom) try to do much better, meaningful art.

and all you artists know what the writer said is true.

Any artist that takes themselves seriously is a shitty artist.

how is this an FML, so many shitty stories like this are filling up FML, and this site really isn't as funny as it used to be
