Happened to us twice at this house. You need to heave heaters with you. Go to walmart, buy some and turn on your fireplace if you have one. Invest in a fireplace if you don't have one. A good gas fireplace can honestly heat up a good portion of your house. Also put on your winter clothes and sleep in them. We even had some sort of VIP insurance were they were suppose to fix our furance within 24hours. However, they didn't fix it for 3 days. It was the dead of winter both times. Furances always break during winter exam times, at least they have for me. Everything actually breaks when I have exams. Currently I need to new faucet, but I haven't had time to go out buy one and replace it. It keeps dripping!
man that happend to my family and i and we suffered for about 3 weeks with no heat in December and down here it's cold.as.HELL. FYL :(
I wud crash in my fridge, lol. Or you can buy an electric heater, all you have to do is plug it in. I have one and it keeps my bedroom warm :)
I'm in New England and I haven't need to turn the heat on yet in my apartment. But then again 1. I love the cold and like it to be 60-68 degrees and 2. I live in an apartment complex and everyone else is cranking up the heat and the warmth seeps in through the walls.

For those who claim Fahrenheit doesn't make sense, it was made in 1724, where 0 was the lowest temperature Daniel Fahrenheit could achieve at the time. 4 was the freezing point of water, and 12 was the temperature of the body. He believed the numbers were too small, so he multiplied them all by eight. For conventional uses, if you understand the reasons behind the number, it actually makes sense. The increments are smaller, so its easier to name a temperature without going into fractions, like Centigrade-using countries do.
#77, with all due respect, i have to say that you are wrong in almost all of your claims. Fahr·en·heit (frn-ht) adj. Abbr. F Of or relating to a temperature scale that registers the freezing point of water as 32°F and the boiling point as 212°F at one atmosphere of pressure. "D.G., simple soul that he was, thought this cockeyed system was the soul of elegance. He made one useful change: to get rid of the fractions, he multiplied Romer's degrees by 4, giving him 30 for the freezing point and 90 for body temperature. Then, for reasons nobody has ever been able to fathom, he multiplied all the numbers by 16/15, making 32 freezing and 96 body temperature. Boiling point for the time being he ignored altogether. " Credit to Cecil Adams. Do some research before attempting to post scientific claims please. As you are on here, i would believe that you have the knowledge and know how of the internet to an extent where using Google should not be overly difficult. OP, FYL, that would be unimaginably shitty.
YDI for being Canadian.

Not at all impossible, Manon. I've been there. Three day power outage in the middle of winter. I could see my breath. The fridge, normally keeping cold in, kept the cold out during that time. I had to put stuff in my fridge to keep it from freezing.
Go buy some electric heaters and use that to heat your house. At least its a temporary solution. You can always return them as soon as your furnace is fixed as long as its within the return policy :)
