I would have demanded I speak to their manager and insist that they get fired. That is incredibly rude and completely unprofessional. If you didn't say anything then OP, I would go back and tell the manager.

anyone who makes a statement like that is an insensitive piece of shit and the reason why i hate society. whether or not the customer was big, does not give anyone the right to say somthing so pathetic and uneducated to another person. especially when it is your job to serve someone with politeness and respect, no matter who the customer is. Oh, hell no. If something like that ever happen'd to me, even as shy as I am, I would have told them off right there. Then be sure to get the manager to get that jerk wad fired.
