typical spoiled child, "hoping to get a car?" you should hope your way to employment first.
I got a penguin suit for my bday. Most awesome gift ever.
Wow, since when does "hoping to get a car" equate with "expecting a car"? Jump down the poor girl's throat some more, why don't you? I was hoping for a car when I was her age too. Did I expect one? Not in the slightest. But there's nothing wrong with hoping for something like that. And since when did it become acceptable to taunt someone and call her names because of her being overweight - PARTICULARLY a teenage girl? Not to mention, for all the lot of you know, she's maybe five or ten pounds overweight with overly zealous, image-obsessed parents. I am utterly astounded and disgusted by the amount of vitriol on these comments. Maybe you all might want to consider getting your own gym memberships and stepping away from the computer for once, instead of abusing strangers on the Internet.
pffff! you deserved it!
Your sense of entitlement makes me sad.
your parents made the right choice. if you want a car, then work your ass and get one for yourself. your parents already worked their ass for you for 16 years.
I think you are going to need more than 3 months if they gave you this over a car. Good luck hope you use it.
Sucks you didn't get what you wanted, but no kid should expect their parents to get a car for their birthday unless they have rich parents. You know, the "My Super-Sweet Sixteen" type. That, or if the parents specifically said "You're getting a car for your sixteenth birthday." Personally, I saved up money myself and paid for half of my first car in cash, then worked for free, five days a week starting at 4AM for the entire summer to pay off the rest. Be happy you got a gym membership, that's an expensive gift and a lot of kids don't get anything for their birthday. Besides, I have a gym membership and work out every other day. If your parents bought you that, that means you are REALLY out of shape. Use the damn membership and get a job!
I agree with #37. What is so wrong about HOPING for a car. Lots of people get cars for their sixteenth birthday, and you'd be lying if you said you didn't HOPE for one. Maybe not necessarily expecting to get one, but hoping. And just because her parents pulled a stunt like this, why does that automatically make her overweight? I've heard lots of parents be on teenage girls of a healthy weight about how "fat they are". My parents never shut up, telling me I'm a fat cow, and even worse sometimes. But DOCTORS tell me I'm fine. So I'm at a healthy weight. Does that stop my parents from being jerks and destroying what little self-esteem I had left? No. I'm technically at a healthy weight, but I'm still dieting (somewhat extreme dieting really), to lose twenty or thirty pounds just to get my parents off my back about my weight. And I'm actually expecting them to pull a move like this. If she's a healthy weight, or even a bit over, it's still a b*tchy move to pull.

Well I don't have a car, OR membership to a gym, and I'm eighteen. I'd be happy with either.
You shouldnt have expected them to give you a car. Youd be pretty lucky if you got a car and its not as if your parents are obliged to give their 16 year old a car. Take the gym membership. Be grateful
