Today, while blissfully unaware that it was the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, I was making paper airplanes during my free period in school. Next thing I know, I was reported for, "making jokes about the 9/11 attacks." FML

It's only making fun of 9/11 if OP purposefully crashed the paper planes. If they got upset just for him flying them, I'd say they're being a bit over sensitive. 9/11 was a tragedy, but it doesn't make such simple activities suddenly taboo.

My gosh everybody on top is getting down voted. Regardless of what they say OP, that is an exceedingly stupid thing to get in trouble for. It is a paper airplane. People are getting way to sensitive. I understand that 9/11 affected thousands and thousands of people, but it is a freaking paper airplane.

I actually know the OP he is one of my good friends (he texted me this happened and he put it on FML and he was from New York) and I even saw the video from the security cameras. Not only was he not even throwing them, just building them, but as he said it was a FREE PERIOD and there was no work due to the upcoming Jewish holiday. Also, the guy who did #18 as well as a few others, thanks for the excellent thoughts. Although he was alive to see 9-11 in person he is a New Yorker and he was born in 1998.

Alive to see 9/11. Bitch he was 3. Bullshit he can remember it. So what if a few Americans died, the whole world doesn't need to give sympathy. What a joke.

Im pretty sure America as a whole is offended by this..

No they're not. You're a special kind of stupid if you really get offended by a paper airplane of all things.

I'm in America. I'm not offended. I think it's hilarious.

You can't speak on behalf of everyone, I live in New York and it's not offensive, OP honestly got in trouble for a ridiculous reason.

It happened 14 years ago. I couldn't give less of a shit about this dude making a paper airplane. Also, as a side note (and by no means any disrespect) no one cries about the innocent 1.6 million iraqis who have died as a result of this. I have to be that guy to throw this into the mix.

this country scares me tbh. like, of course you can have that semi-automatic weapon,, but heaven forbid a fake plane exist on september 11th...@america can we get our shit together pls

@16 I imagine if he was playing with a semi-automatic at school during his free period, the results would be different.

OP is also in New York. The teacher who reprimanded him might have lost someone.

And if OP says they are in school, I'd assuming high school and not college (seems like they would have said class/college/university instead if they were). They probably didn't live through 9/11 OR were ~2 years old. They're not going to remember. It would be like getting upset at someone who doesn't remember Important anniversaries from WWII if they didn't live in that generation/know someone affected by the war.

I was just about 4 and I have no memory of it at all.

I was 8. I only remember the smoky sky. I lived on the East Coast at the time. It didn't really hit me what happened until I was in high school and we were watching documentaries about the towers falling.

I was 21 and getting ready for work when it happened. I still have a vivid memory of my mom crying as we watched the news footage.

We are all saying he deserves it, but just remember those who were lost. Instead of shaming this guy.

No,we're not all saying that he deserves it.

No it was not. I swear, conspiracy theories get stupider and stupider.

how are y'all hoes finna be holier than thou about september 11th when y'all can't even remember may 23rd, june 1st, december 7th, august 9th, august 6th, august 9th (again), april 1st, march 19th, december 13th, april 4th, etc etc etc. if y'all don't keep track of every day of the year how are you ever going to make sure that you're not accidentally mocking a tragedy somewhere on god's green earth, hmm? jesus christ

Basically i think #24 is saying that there are many horrific events that have happened on many days of the year and at one point we will do something that is disrespectful out of ignorance.

@38: This is the translation I got after putting it into Gizoogle's Tranzizzler: Why is everyone taking a holier-than-thou stance against OP about September 11th when most of you can’t even remember what happened on May 23rd, June 1st, December 7th, August 9th, August 6th, August 9th (separate incident), April 1st, March 19th, December 13th, April 4th and so on and so forth. If one does not keep track of every day of the year how will you ever make sure that you aren’t accidentally mocking a tragedy somewhere on God’s green earth?

Plain english, I have no idea what you're trying to say
