Today, while cleaning my son's room, I found an envelope labelled "PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL" under his bed. I opened it, only to find it was a glitter bomb. I couldn't get it all cleaned off myself before he got home. He just said "HAH! Serves you right!" and went to his room smirking. FML

It's really hard to feel sorry for you here when you opened an envelope that wasn't yours. Especially one that said "private and confidential" as a last chance warning. Totally deserved it.

This is the biggest YDI i have seen in awhile

While I'm not advocating snooping on your children, 'private and confidential' sounds like something you'd find on a bank statement rather than something deeply personal, maybe his mother thought he'd forgotten about it and wanted to make sure he wasn't ignoring something important.

Good GOD what is WRONG with people these days?! OF COURSE OP had the right to open the envelope, and the child had NO right to speak to them in that way; he should have been slapped, HARD, for being so disrespectful to someone who helped give him LIFE and provides EVERYTHING for him. FYL OP, and good going, but you need to do that to him to teach. Lesson about respect, and quit cleaning his room and make HIM do it.

Firstly, even if this is mail a legal guardian can open their child's mail. Dip-*****. It's a child. Secondly if a ten year old has something called private and confidential I would assume some adult wrote it and definitely check. You kidding me? "What can a child have in an envolope that's you need to see?" ****, some adult could sent him pictures, some suicide note he's present ten for later this night, and std check result

How would you like it if your son opened up something of yours. Think of it that ewt

I love how people say to a parent with a teenager to care for that she deserves it for looking at something like that, it could have been test results or a suicide not, FYL OP, hopefully others see the light of this

She does deserve it. Completely. Just because he's her child, doesn't mean he isn't entitled to a shred of privacy. Even if it was test results or a suicide note, she still had no business opening it. If she was so worried, she should've asked him about it.

In which case, she should have confronted her child to ask about it. Children are tiny human beings that should be respected to at least some degree.
