Today, while working at McDonald's a car full of obnoxious teens came through. They had made a $30 order, and handed me a tin of small change, claiming that on a McDonald's ad they saw that we, employees, liked counting change. I had to count out $30 in spare change during a rush period at work. FML

you should have said "**** you, and come back with cash"...or, you should have gotten your manager to say that instead...i've done that as a manager because bringing in a tin of uncounted change and expecting the clerk to count it for you is just plain rude. it holds up the line behind you and makes everyone unhappy.

You should have refused them service unless they counted it out themselves. If it was during a rush, your manager would have backed you up.

Wow, I think you deserved that saying you can refuse it. A person or company can refuse any amount of change, so you should have just told them to give you bills instead

Yeah, I don't know about where you live, but here if the bill is over $20, I think, you can refuse change.

Dude! Victoria!! Which store was it? If it was Altona or Yarraville then it might've been me or my mates... but probably not. I'm usually the note giver. Note givers FTW! My coinage action goes to the bank. Now imagine it was a bank teller getting hissy for having to count coins, I'd reach over and say "THAT'S YOUR JOB! Arrrrgh me hearties!"

This is where you "accidentally" dump the change on the ground while your grabbing it and then asking them to pick it up or they don't get their food.

How small of change are we talking here? I mean, granted dollars/toonies/quarters would suck counting, but if they gave you pennies and nickels and shit like that, I would have cut up all their food into tiny pieces and given it to them in small plastic bags.

If they had given me pennies and nickels and shit like that, I would've wanted to cut them up into little pieces and put them in small plastic bags more than their food. OP: That sucks but you should've just flat out refused it, especially during rush hour. It's not necessarilly an FYL though unless complaints were filed by the people waiting or your manager complained. Next time, just refuse.

I hate when people do stuff like that. I'd also guess that they came in shrieking over nothing, and when they ordered, they took 5 minutes to order because they couldn't decide what they actually wanted and changed their order every 5 seconds.

Those kids are ****** hilarious. I want to be their friend XD

no you didn't... you legally as an employee only have to count out $2.00 in change and it is the responsibility of the customer to pay the rest in bill form

i work at mcdonalds too. and when it is a rush, you don't have time to get a manager, they're usually busy out the front making sure everything is running smoothly. the person who takes the cash is at the back of the store, away from everyone else. and when the car of teenagers is holding up the rest of the drive thru its actually quicker just to count the money. having done the same thing, i agree with you - that is definitely an fml. it would've screwed up your times for the hour, your draw would have an insane amount of change in it, and all the customers would be angry.. fyl.
