If your electricity is cut, how are you posting this? I guess it's from a phone but it doesn't say posted from a mobile device. Anyway, why don't you go outside or something? It's surely brighter out there than in the basement. Go for a walk or even go to the park or something. You don't have to sit at home in the dark, just don't forget to lock the house up.

If OP was using Wifi, then that likely would have cut off with the power, so a laptop wouldn't have had internet. That said, OP could have had those portable 3G things I feel like I've seen before. I don't use them, so that's why I feel it's unlikely, but I'm biased. :P
