YDI for leaving it in his reach. Something as valuable as you say it is belongs in a safe place.
Considering the circumstances, you should really know better than to leave expensive items like that where a kid can get into them. Either way that really blows man.
Jesus, that sucks, but I can totally understand how you mist be feeling. Something similar except deliberately malicious happened to me, but the difference is you'll forgive your son, and eventually be able to get over it. I wonder if it was so precious/ valuable where it was kept so that a two year old could have easy access to it? But this is a good time to either install a baby gate in front of your son's door at night (my almost 4 year old niece still usually has a gate up at night) or upgrade the one you have. I hope your wife was adequately sorry.
Welcome to parenthood. You may as well lay out everything that's dear to you. He'll get to it all sooner or later.
Aw man, that sucks! I had the same thing happen to me once-a spaceship I had that made noises and kept in pristine condition since I was eight was given to my four year old extremely hyperactive ADHD nephew to play with by my Aunt-it was wrecked to say the least, and I had hidden in the top corner of the GUEST closet-where they were not staying, by the way, wrapped in a towel hidden as best I could-sometimes shit just happens-it really, really hurt my feelings, the ONE toy I tried to protect, and, well, there you go! There is a happy ending, though-years later this same aunt gave me several thousand from my grandmother's estate-anyway, back to you, your son will hopefully be able to help you one day when you are old and just try to bear that in mind!
As much as this sucks, because really 2k is a lot of money... you kind of deserve it. Even if I didn't have a two year old, there's no way any comic worth that much would not be sealed and locked away. For preservation as much as safety from other people. :/
