Today, I sang "Happy Birthday" to my best friend. Sadly, it was while waitressing at work, where they were having a celebration I hadn't been invited to in the first place. FML

What a bunch of crappy friends if they did it on purpose. I hope they at least left you a huge tip in that case. On the bright side they could have known you were working and included you in that way!

Because any "best friend" would have at least invited you regardless of whether the answer was no or not. It's just manners. Even if the friend knew the OP would have to decline because of work, they should have at least asked if for no other reason than to let their friend know they would have been welcome.
